You may think Musk is some sort of super smart scientist and while he is one of the smartest people of this era, he is more of a business guy. He had no previous knowledge of rocket science when he decided to create SpaceX and did it just because he could and could see that there would be a extremely profitable new market because NASA was finally allowing space exploration available to private companies and decided to create the space company.
He made headlines in 2010 when SpaceX became the first private company to launch a rocket into space and have it return and land on Earth. This is a massive advancement in space exploration as only the US and Russia have done before. This will make space travel will become extremely cheaper because they can reuse the rockets.
If you thought that this means they are way closer to getting to Mars, then you'd be right. Although all shuttles launched so weren't manned, both SpaceX and Boeing are both planning to begin manned launches by the end of the year. You may not have to wait very much longer to get a flight to Space if you are interest in doing so!

Lucas! I have read your blog, "You may be able to go to Mars in your lifetime!" and found the information you provided to be very interesting!
ReplyDeleteI for one find it impressive that Musk has no general idea or knowledge of rocket science. In a way, it kind of teaches us that you don't have to be an immediate master at your art in order for it to be great, but as long as it's something you enjoy doing, and eventually master, then that's all that matters!
Im also finding it pretty cool that we are getting close to Mars, which is actually fascinating news to me because I've come to resent anything science-related like the plague.
This blog is very interesting! Your topics are very intriguing and I think get peoples mind thinking. I don't think that I would ever want to live on Mars, but it sure would be an experience. I can't wait to see the day when they do start sending people into space to venture to Mars.
ReplyDeleteLucas - I have a massive nerd crush on Elon Musk! :) This is a super cool topic and I can't wait to read more!
